Rev, Tithe Extractor
The Commander
Whenever you attack, target creature gains deathtouch until end of turn.
Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, create a Treasure token, then look at the top card of that player's library and exile it face down. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled. (A Treasure token is an artifact with ", Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
Guide
Gameplan
Rev is a mono-black aggro/value engine that turns combat damage into resources: every player you connect with hands you a Treasure and lets you steal and cast their top card. Attack wide (or with evasive creatures), spread damage across multiple opponents to multiply triggers, and snowball into an overwhelming card and mana advantage. The deathtouch trigger lets a single attacker trade up and pressures blockers, while Treasures fuel big plays and the exiled cards keep your hand stocked.
Strengths
- Generates explosive card advantage and ramp the more opponents you damage, scaling perfectly in multiplayer pods
- Treasures enable mono-black to splash effects, ramp into bombs, and fuel artifact/sacrifice synergies
- Deathtouch attack trigger turns small creatures into removal and discourages profitable blocks
- Mono-color means consistent mana and access to black's deep removal, tutors, and recursion
Weaknesses
- Relies on connecting in combat—stalled boards or strong blockers shut off the engine
- Needs creatures on the table to function and can be soft to board wipes
- Mono-black struggles with enchantment and certain artifact removal
- Value is incremental and the deck lacks a built-in combo finish, so it can be outraced by faster decks
Key Cards
- Nadier's Nightblade — Drains each opponent whenever a Treasure is sacrificed, turning Rev's Treasure output into a recurring win condition.
- Mahadi, Emporium Master — Adds even more Treasures off your creatures dying, stacking ramp and sac-fodder synergy.
- Reconnaissance — Lets attackers connect for triggers then pull back before damage, abusing the deathtouch and damage triggers safely.
- Coastal Piracy effects like Bident of Thassa — Compounds evasive damage value, though Rev already rewards going wide and unblockable.
- Whispersilk Cloak — Makes Rev unblockable and shroud, guaranteeing the steal-and-Treasure trigger every turn.
- Goldspan Dragon — Doubles Treasure value and provides an evasive attacker that triggers Rev reliably.
Upgrade Path
Add cheap evasive attackers and unblockable enablers (Whispersilk Cloak, Rogue's Passage, Trailblazer's Boots) so Rev's triggers fire every combat. Lean into Treasure payoffs—Nadier's Nightblade, Mayhem Devil, Reckless Fireweaver-style drains aren't all mono-black, so prioritize Marionette Master, Disciple of the Vault, and big Treasure doublers to convert tokens into damage. Round out with fast mana (Sol Ring, Jet Medallion), strong black tutors and removal, and a couple of board-wipe insurance cards like Bontu's Last Reckoning to reset stalled boards in your favor.
