What it does
Adamant is a triggered ability tied to mana payment: if you spend three or more mana of a specific color to cast a spell with adamant, you get a bonus effect. For example, "Adamant — If at least three red mana was spent to cast this spell, [bonus]." The base spell still works without meeting the condition; you simply miss the bonus.
The key nuance: it checks the mana spent to cast the spell, not the spell's mana cost. Extra colored mana spent on generic costs, or via cost increases, still counts. So you can intentionally pay extra colored mana to satisfy adamant even when the printed cost wouldn't require it.
In Commander, adamant rewards mono-color or color-heavy decks. It's mostly a niche, low-impact mechanic from Throne of Eldraine, but it synergizes well with mana that filters into a single color, helping you reliably hit the threshold.
