What it does
Ferocious isn't a keyword ability itself—it's a condition that certain spells and abilities check: you get a bonus or extra effect if you control a creature with power 4 or greater. It debuted in Tarkir block (Temur clan) on cards like Savage Punch and Temur Charm, where the spell does more when ferocious is "active."
The main thing people get wrong: the power-4-or-greater check happens as the spell or ability resolves (or when the trigger checks), not on cast. So you need that big creature on the battlefield at the right moment, and it can be any creature you control—not the one you're targeting. A single 4-power creature satisfies it.
In Commander, ferocious is easy to turn on since green decks run plenty of beefy creatures, making these modal or bonus effects reliably reach their stronger mode.
