What it does
Join forces is a kicker-style mechanic from Commander 2011 that lets every player—not just you—contribute mana to a spell or ability, starting with you and going clockwise around the table. Each player may pay any amount they wish, and the total determines the effect (for example, Mana-Charged Dragon's combat boost or Minds Aggregate's mass draw).
The big nuance: join forces is optional for each player, and it's not "casting" or paying a cost in the normal sense—it's a special action built into the spell's resolution. Opponents will often pay in if the outcome benefits them too, which is the whole flavor: it's a group effect with shared incentives.
In Commander it shines as a political tool—you can sweeten deals or pressure opponents into pumping mana toward a result they may not fully control, making it a fun, table-wide negotiation moment.
