What it does

Learn lets you do one of two things when an instruction tells you to learn: either reveal a Lesson card from outside the game (your sideboard) and put it into your hand, or discard a card, then draw a card (rummage). You pick whichever option you want each time. The big nuance: in Commander, there's no sideboard during normal play, so the Lesson option usually isn't available—learn typically just becomes "rummage" (discard then draw). Some playgroups house-rule access to a Lesson "binder," but by default you only get the discard-draw mode. Also note you may choose to discard nothing and draw nothing if you can't or don't want to rummage—you aren't forced. It matters as light card filtering and graveyard fuel. The rummage mode can enable discard synergies (reanimation, flashback, madness), turning a minor ability into real value.
