What it does

Plainscycling is a variant of cycling. For its activation cost (which includes paying the listed amount and discarding the card), you can search your library for a Plains card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle. Note it finds any card with the Plains land type—not just basic Plains, but also dual lands like Sacred Foundry or Murmuring Bosk that have "Plains" in their type line. The most common misunderstanding: plainscycling is an activated ability used from your hand, and it triggers "cycling" abilities (like cards that trigger "whenever you cycle a card"), since it's a form of cycling. The card you discard goes to the graveyard; the Plains goes to your hand, not the battlefield. In Commander, it's flexible card-smoothing: early game, fetch a land to hit drops; late game, discard the excess for a relevant card, helping fix mana and reduce flooding or screw.
