What it does
Read Ahead is a Saga keyword that lets you choose, as the Saga enters the battlefield, how many lore counters to start with—anywhere from one up to the number of its final chapter. You only trigger the chapter ability for the value you chose; you skip the earlier chapters entirely. So if you pick chapter III on a three-chapter Saga, you get only the III ability immediately, not I, II, and III in sequence.
The common mistake is thinking you trigger every chapter up to your chosen number—you don't. You also can't pick zero; you must enter with at least one lore counter. After that, the Saga advances normally during your draw steps and gets sacrificed once it hits its final chapter.
In Commander, Read Ahead lets you jump straight to a Saga's most impactful chapter for immediate value, or stage it lower to milk multiple turns—great flexibility against varied board states.
