What it does
Void is a triggered-ability condition introduced in Edge of Eternities. An ability with Void checks whether a permanent left the battlefield or a spell was cast this turn, and if so, the ability does something extra or triggers at all. The wording is typically "Void — Whenever [event], if a nonland permanent left the battlefield or a spell was cast from anywhere this turn, [do something]."
The nuance people miss: it doesn't care whether you caused the event. Any player's nonland permanent leaving the battlefield, or any spell being cast (including by opponents), satisfies the condition. It also looks back across the whole turn, so an earlier death or cast still counts even if nothing's happening at the moment the ability triggers.
In Commander, Void is easy to turn on—four-player games see constant casting and creatures dying, so it's reliably active almost every turn, making these abilities far stronger than in 1v1.
