Falco Spara, Pactweaver
The Commander
Flying, trample
Falco Spara enters with a shield counter on it.
You may look at the top card of your library any time.
You may cast spells from the top of your library by removing a counter from a creature you control in addition to paying their other costs.
Guide
Gameplan
Build a wide board of creatures loaded with +1/+1 counters, then strip those counters to cast spells off the top of your library for free, generating massive card advantage. You snowball counters and bodies until you either go tall with a Voltron/counter payoff or wide with go-wide finishers. Every turn you can see and cast off the top, so you rarely run out of gas.
Strengths
- Effectively casts spells from the top of your library, giving relentless card advantage without drawing
- Color identity (Bant) gives access to the best counter synergies, ramp, and protection
- Enters with a built-in shield counter, making it resilient to removal
- Flexible build paths: counters, +1/+1 matters, blink, or value midrange all work
Weaknesses
- Engine stalls if you run out of counters to remove—you must keep producing them
- Reliant on the commander being on the battlefield to fuel the top-of-library casting
- Random nature of top-deck casting can leave you stuck on lands or off-curve cards
- Removing counters weakens your board, creating tension between value and pressure
- Three-color manabase and counter-doublers can be greedy and slow
Key Cards
- Hardened Scales — Multiplies every counter you place, giving you a deeper fuel reserve to cast off the top.
- The Ozolith — Banks counters when creatures die, so removing counters to cast spells doesn't permanently shrink your board.
- Branching Evolution — Doubles incoming counters, dramatically accelerating your ability to power the engine.
- Conclave Mentor — Adds counters and gains life while supporting the counter theme cheaply.
- Cathars' Crusade — Floods your board with counters every time a creature enters, refueling your engine for free.
- Inspiring Call — Protects your counter-laden board and draws a huge stack of cards in a counters deck.
- Walking Ballista — A counter sink and removal/wincon that synergizes perfectly with counter doublers and shield counters.
- Heroic Intervention — Cheap protection that shields your whole board from wraths and targeted removal.
Upgrade Path
Add counter doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales) and counter-banking effects (The Ozolith) so removing counters never leaves you empty. Tighten the manabase with fast mana (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, fetch/dual lands) and add protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves to keep the engine online. Top-end finishers such as Craterhoof Behemoth or a Walking Ballista combo convert your inevitable card advantage into a clean kill.
Core Cards

Win Conditions
- ▸Voltron damage with a counter-pumped, flying-trampling Falco
- ▸Going wide with counter-buffed tokens and an overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth
- ▸Walking Ballista or Triskelion with counter doublers as a repeatable damage outlet
- ▸Grinding out the table on card advantage until your board overwhelms them
Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Falco turns every counter into card advantage, rewarding doublers and counter generators.
- Voltron — You can dump counters onto your commander, which already has flying and trample, to swing for lethal.
- Value Midrange — Casting freely off the top makes any creature-heavy goodstuff pile snowball out of control.
- Go-Wide Tokens — Token producers paired with counter anthems give plenty of bodies to hold counters and attack.
