Firebending 2 (Whenever this creature attacks, add . This mana lasts until end of combat.)
Whenever you cast a spell while Fire Lord Azula is attacking, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy. (A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token.)
Swing with Azula every turn to generate via Firebending, then chain spells during your combat to copy each one for free value. You build a Grixis spellslinger/storm-lite shell that turns one removal spell, burn spell, or extra-turn spell into two, snowballing card advantage and damage until you burn the table out or take infinite turns.
Doubles every spell cast during combat, effectively halving the cost of your best instants and sorceries
Firebending 2 ramps your combat-step spellcasting and partially refunds red costs
Grixis colors give access to the deepest pools of card draw, removal, and burn
Snowballs hard once online—copied draw spells and burn end games quickly
Self-contained engine: she's both an attacker and a value generator
Requires her to survive and connect in combat, so she's removal- and blocker-bait
Color-intensive triple-color manabase can stumble on early plays
Does nothing the turn she enters if you tap out—needs setup to leverage
No evasion baked in, so chump blockers blank her combat trigger
Telegraphs your plan; opponents will hold up interaction for your combat step
Guarantees Azula connects so her combat-step copy windows actually matter.
Add ramp and rituals (Dockside Extortionist, Jeska's Will) to cast multiple spells per combat and fuel X-spells. Prioritize evasion and protection (Whispersilk Cloak, Swiftfoot Boots, Rogue's Passage) so her trigger reliably fires, then lean into extra-turn and free-cast spells (Time Warp effects, Mizzix's Mastery) to convert a single combat into a lethal storm. Tighten the manabase with fast lands, fetches, and signets to support the demanding Grixis curve.
