Oswald Fiddlebender
The Commander
Magical Tinkering — ,
, Sacrifice an artifact: Search your library for an artifact card with mana value equal to 1 plus the sacrificed artifact's mana value, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle. Activate only as a sorcery.
Guide
Gameplan
Oswald is an artifact toolbox engine: tap him to sacrifice an artifact and tutor a card costing exactly one more onto the battlefield, climbing a ladder of pieces. You ramp into cheap mana rocks early, then chain Oswald activations each turn to assemble combos or fetch the perfect answer/threat for any situation. The deck wins by tutoring up a deterministic artifact loop or by stitching together value engines that bury opponents.
Strengths
- Repeatable, untapped artifact tutoring that fixes and finds combo pieces on demand
- Extremely consistent—turns any artifact into the exact piece you need at the right mana value
- Strong synergy with cheap mana rocks that double as ladder rungs and ramp
- Can run a powerful suite of stax and answer artifacts to silver-bullet opponents
Weaknesses
- Mono-white means weak card draw and limited interaction with the stack
- Heavily reliant on Oswald himself—prone to commander tax and removal
- Sorcery-speed activation is slow and telegraphs the combo turn
- Vulnerable to artifact wipes and graveyard/stax hate that shut the engine off
Key Cards
- Oswald Fiddlebender — The entire engine—every activation tutors the next rung of your artifact chain to the battlefield.
- Time Sieve — With five artifacts you can sacrifice them for extra turns, a classic Oswald-fueled combo finish.
- Thopter Foundry — Pairs with Sword of the Meek/Krark-Clan Ironworks for infinite token and mana loops Oswald assembles.
- Sword of the Meek — The Thopter Foundry combo piece, and a tutorable one-drop artifact Oswald can fetch up the ladder.
- Krark-Clan Ironworks — Enables infinite mana loops and powers explosive artifact-sacrifice combos Oswald can find.
- Portal to Phyrexia — A devastating top-end artifact you can climb toward to dominate the board.
Upgrade Path
Add more cheap, efficient mana rocks (Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Mox Opal) so every rung of the ladder doubles as ramp, and include fast protection like Swords to Plowshares and Silence-style effects. Tighten the deck around one or two compact combos (Thopter Foundry/Sword of the Meek + Ashnod's Altar, or Time Sieve loops) so Oswald can win the turn he activates. Round out with stax pieces and Teferi's Protection or Heroic Intervention-style insurance to protect the engine against interaction.

Win Conditions
- ▸Infinite Thopter tokens via Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek then attack or aristocrat them out
- ▸Time Sieve extra-turn loops to take the game over
- ▸Tutoring up a haymaker bomb like Portal to Phyrexia or Wurmcoil Engine to win on board
- ▸Assembling a stax lock plus an inevitable artifact win engine
Archetypes
- Combo — Oswald deterministically tutors specific artifacts onto the battlefield to assemble loops like Thopter Foundry/Sword of the Meek or Time Sieve.
- Artifacts — The whole deck is built around cheap rocks and artifact synergies that feed his sacrifice ladder.
- Stax — He can fetch lock pieces like Static Orb or Tangle Wire to grind opponents while you keep your engine running.
- Toolbox Control — Tutoring exactly the right answer artifact each turn lets the deck answer any threat reactively.
