Ovika, Enigma Goliath
The Commander
Flying
Ward—, Pay 3 life.
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, create X 1/1 red Phyrexian Goblin creature tokens, where X is the mana value of that spell. They gain haste until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast Ovika, then chain noncreature spells to flood the board with hasty Goblin tokens that swarm for lethal or fuel sacrifice/combo payoffs. You play a spellslinger/storm-style midgame, accelerating into cheap rituals and high-value spells, then close with a big alpha strike or a token-based engine the same turn Ovika hits.
Strengths
- Generates explosive, immediate board presence from spells you were casting anyway
- Tokens have haste, enabling surprise lethal the turn they're made
- Ward and flying make Ovika hard to remove and a clock on her own
- Synergizes with rituals, big X-spells, and free/cheap spells to snowball quickly
- Great payoff for both aggressive token strategies and combo engines
Weaknesses
- All value is gated behind a 7-mana body that does nothing the turn before it lands
- Token swarm is wiped easily by any board wipe, resetting your engine
- Goblins are fragile 1/1s vulnerable to chip damage and sweepers
- Heavy spell-density build can flood on lands or fizzle without enough payoff
- Removing Ovika (despite Ward) collapses the whole plan
Key Cards
- Purphoros, God of the Forge — Turns every Goblin token into 2 damage, converting Ovika's swarm into direct burn that ends games.
- Impact Tremors — Each token entering deals damage, making mass token creation a reliable win condition.
- Goblin Bombardment — Free sacrifice outlet that pings opponents and combos with token generation for inevitability.
- Jeska's Will — A cheap ritual that both ramps you and creates tokens, fueling explosive double-spell turns.
- Mana Echoes — Each token's ETB pumps colorless mana, enabling massive chains of spells and exponential token production.
- Aetherflux Reservoir — Casting many noncreature spells gains life and arms a 50-life laser to finish the table.
Upgrade Path
Lean into a critical mass of token payoffs (Purphoros, Impact Tremors, Terror of the Peaks) and free/cheap rituals so a single post-Ovika turn ends the game. Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, Dockside Extortionist) and cost reducers to deploy Ovika early and chain spells, plus protection like Pact of Negation or Deflecting Swat to shield the key turn. Tighten the curve toward sub-three-mana spells and ritual loops to enable storm-style explosive turns rather than relying on slow combat.

- Storm / Combo — Chaining rituals and cheap spells can generate near-infinite tokens or mana with Mana Echoes-style engines.
