Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle
The Commander
Flying
Whenever you cast a historic spell, return target creature card with mana value 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)
Guide
Gameplan
Teshar is a mono-white combo commander: every historic spell (artifact, legendary, or Saga) you cast reanimates a creature with mana value 3 or less for free. You assemble loops with cheap artifact creatures and zero/low-cost artifacts that sacrifice and recast, generating infinite ETB/death triggers to win. Early turns you ramp and set up, then chain Teshar triggers to combo off in a single turn.
Strengths
- One of the strongest combo engines in mono-white, capable of true infinite loops the turn Teshar resolves
- Reanimates creatures for free, recurring sacrifice fodder and value engines repeatedly
- Loops are flexible — many redundant pieces (Disciple of the Vault, Walking Ballista, altars) make it resilient to single-point removal
- Mono-color means perfect mana consistency and access to white's deep artifact and stax suite
Weaknesses
- Combo is dead until Teshar is on the battlefield, making it heavily commander-dependent
- Mono-white struggles with card draw and ramp compared to other colors
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Grafdigger's Cage shut off the engine entirely)
- Many loops require multiple specific pieces, so targeted disruption or a single counterspell can stall the whole turn
Key Cards
- Disciple of the Vault — Turns artifact sacrifice loops into a direct life-drain win condition for all opponents.
- Walking Ballista — A 0-cost-castable creature Teshar can return, and infinite loops let it shoot down every opponent.
- Sai, Master Thopterist — Generates Thopters off your artifact casts and provides a sac outlet to fuel and reset combo loops.
- Myr Retriever — Recurs cheap artifacts from the graveyard, enabling self-sustaining recast loops with Teshar.
- Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet that produces mana, the backbone of most infinite Teshar combos.
- Nim Deathmantle — Reanimates fodder for two mana, pairing with sacrifice and token engines for grindy and infinite value.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the combo by adding redundant free sac outlets (Phyrexian Altar, Krark-Clan Ironworks) and cheap recursion (Junk Diver, Scrap Trawler) so loops come online with fewer cards. Improve speed and protection with fast mana like Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, and Mox Amber, plus Silence-style protection (Grand Abolisher, Teferi's Protection) to safely combo off. Add tutors such as Enlightened Tutor and Recruiter of the Guard to find missing pieces and make the deck far more consistent.

Win Conditions
- ▸Infinite life loss via Disciple of the Vault as you loop artifact creatures
- ▸Infinite Walking Ballista counters to ping out all opponents
- ▸Infinite ETB/attack triggers (Mentor of the Meek draws, drain effects) to overwhelm the table
- ▸Wide token swarm from Sai and altars closing with an alpha strike
Archetypes
- Combo — Teshar plus cheap artifact creatures and free sac outlets creates infinite reanimation loops to win on the spot.
- Aristocrats — Endless sacrifice and reanimation of creatures fuels drain effects like Disciple of the Vault and Blood Artist.
- Artifacts — Historic triggers reward casting artifacts, making an artifact-dense shell both the engine and the payoff.
- Stax — Mono-white access to taxing and lock pieces lets Teshar slow the table while assembling its combo.
