The Commander

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to blue is less than five, Thassa isn't a creature.

At the beginning of your end step, exile up to one other target creature you control, then return that card to the battlefield under your control.

{3}{U}: Tap another target creature.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a value engine around Thassa's end-step blink, flickering creatures with strong enter-the-battlefield (ETB) abilities every turn to grind out card advantage, board control, and incremental damage. Tap down blockers or attackers with her activated ability while staying resilient thanks to indestructibility. Slowly bury opponents in two-for-ones until an overwhelming board or a combo finishes them.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, untargetable-by-removal blink engine on a hard-to-kill indestructible body
  • Mono-blue gives access to the best counterspells, card draw, and tutors
  • Tap ability doubles as evasion enabler and a pseudo-removal/Fog effect
  • Flicker resets and dodges sorcery-speed removal targeting your creatures
  • Low mana value (4) makes recasting after a wipe cheap

Weaknesses

  • Slow and grindy; can be outpaced by aggressive or combo decks
  • Mono-blue struggles with enchantment and resilient permanent removal
  • Devotion requirement means Thassa is often a non-creature wall early
  • Heavy reliance on ETB creatures—dead-ish without good targets
  • Blink only hits one creature per turn, limiting explosive value

Key Cards

  • PalinchronUntaps lands when it enters, and Thassa's blink makes it an infinite mana engine with enough untapped lands.
  • Peregrine DrakeCheaper Palinchron-style untapper that goes infinite with Thassa plus any free flicker outlet.
  • Snapcaster MageRepeatable flashback every end step turns your graveyard into a recurring spellbook.
  • MulldrifterDraws two cards every single turn when blinked, a clean value baseline.
  • ArchaeomancerReturns an instant or sorcery each end step, enabling counterspell or bounce loops.
  • Sakashima of a Thousand FacesCopies your best ETB creature and survives as a second blink target.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crystals, Mana Vault) and a tight counterspell suite to protect your engine and accelerate into Thassa. Lean into a compact infinite combo like Palinchron/Peregrine Drake with extra free flicker outlets (Eldrazi Displacer, Deadeye Navigator) so you don't rely solely on her once-per-turn blink, and include a payoff such as a Walking Ballista or aristocrat drain. Round out with strong tutors (Mystical Tutor, Fabricate) and resilient card advantage to make the value plan inevitable.
