The Commander

Whenever an opponent discards a card, exile it from their graveyard with a stash counter on it.

During your turn, you may play cards you don't own with stash counters on them from exile, and mana of any type can be spent to cast those spells.

{3}{B}, {T}: Each opponent discards a card. Activate only as a sorcery.

Guide

Gameplan

Tinybones is a mono-black discard deck that turns opponents' hands into your resources. Force discards across the table, exile those cards with stash counters via Tinybones, then play them yourself for free value and any-color mana fixing. You grind opponents out of cards while building card advantage, then close with a discard-payoff finisher or sheer resource dominance.

Strengths

  • Steals and casts opponents' cards, giving access to all five colors of spells off black mana
  • Built-in repeatable discard that pressures every opponent's hand each turn
  • Cheap two-mana commander that comes down early and snowballs
  • Mono-black gives deep access to tutors, recursion, and discard payoffs

Weaknesses

  • Slow clock — discard is grindy and rarely closes games quickly
  • Activated ability is symmetrical card disadvantage if you can't capitalize
  • Empty hands (hellbent opponents) blunt your whole strategy
  • Vulnerable to commander removal that resets your stash engine
  • Mono-color means weak interaction with artifacts/enchantments and limited sweeper options

Key Cards

  • Liliana of the Dark RealmsMana ramp and a mono-black engine, but pair Tinybones with discard enablers to maximize value.
  • Bottomless PitRepeatable symmetric discard that feeds Tinybones' stash counters every upkeep.
  • MegrimTurns every opponent discard from your engine into direct damage as a wincon.
  • Liliana's CaressStacks with other discard payoffs to drain the table as hands shrink.
  • Nath of the Gilt-Leaf style discard staplesMass discard effects multiply Tinybones' stash gains and payoff damage.
  • Bloodchief AscensionSnowballs off discards and graveyard hits to drain opponents for the win.
  • MindslicerWipes all hands, feeding a massive pile of stash counters for you to replay.
  • NecropotenceRefills your hand to keep enablers flowing in a grindy mono-black shell.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion) and a tutor package (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to assemble discard payoffs faster. Diversify mass-discard sources like Mind Shatter and Sadistic Hypnotist to keep stash counters flowing, and include protection (Lightning Greaves, Imp's Mischief) so your engine survives. To push higher, lean into a compact wincon such as Bloodchief Ascension plus repeatable mill/discard, or finish with a drain combo rather than relying purely on grind.
