What it does
When two creatures fight, each deals damage equal to its power to the other, simultaneously. This isn't combat—it's just two creatures dealing damage to each other outside of attacking or blocking. Many "fight" spells in Commander actually have one of your creatures fight an opponent's, often used as creature-based removal.
The most common mistake: fight damage isn't combat damage, so abilities that trigger "when this deals combat damage" won't fire, and combat-only effects don't apply. However, regular damage triggers, deathtouch, lifelink, and indestructible all still work. If either creature leaves before damage resolves, neither deals damage. Note "fight" requires two creatures—if one is gone, nothing happens.
In Commander, fight effects (and one-sided "deals damage equal to its power" effects) are premium green removal that also pings planeswalkers or synergizes with deathtouch and lifelink builds.
