What it does

Raid is an ability word that checks whether you attacked with at least one creature earlier in your turn. If you did, the spell or ability with Raid gets a bonus effect; if you didn't, it either does nothing extra or you choose the lesser mode. It's not a true keyword—it's just shorthand for "if you attacked this turn." The most common mistake: the attack doesn't have to connect or deal damage. Merely declaring an attacker satisfies Raid, even if that creature was blocked, removed, or your opponent had no permanents to attack. It also doesn't matter who you attacked. The check happens when the Raid spell resolves or the ability triggers, so the attack must come before you cast it—usually meaning your second main phase. In Commander, Raid rewards aggressive, attack-first sequencing. Sneak in a small swing before casting your Raid payoff to unlock the upgrade.
