Why is this card good?

Mind Stone is one of the best two-mana rocks in the format precisely because it doesn't become a dead draw. Early, it accelerates you toward your commander a turn ahead; late, when you're flooded and don't need the ramp, you crack it for a card. That flexibility is why it sits at top-30 popularity — nearly every deck can run it. It shines hardest in colorless-heavy or artifact-light decks that lack good card advantage, and in any deck that wants smooth, low-cost acceleration: midrange, control, commanders like Talrand, Urza, or anything in a color pair without strong card draw. The sacrifice mode also enables artifact synergies (Reckless Fireweaver, Disciple of the Vault) and feeds reanimation/recursion shells. Skip it in dedicated fast combo or cEDH lists, where you want rocks that produce colored mana (Signets, Talismans) or higher payoff like Mana Crystal. It only makes colorless, so multicolor decks may prefer fixing-capable rocks instead.
