Brago, King Eternal
The Commander
Flying
Whenever Brago deals combat damage to a player, exile any number of target nonland permanents you control, then return those cards to the battlefield under their owner's control.
Guide
Gameplan
Connect with Brago's evasive 2/4 flyer, then blink your own nonland permanents to re-trigger their enter-the-battlefield abilities every combat. You snowball card advantage, board control, and untapped mana off ETB engines until you lock the table or assemble a loop that wins. The early game is ramp, protection, and value blinkers; the mid-game is a Brago hit that buries opponents in value.
Strengths
- Repeatable ETB abuse generates massive card and board advantage each turn
- Can untap mana rocks and lands (via Deadeye Navigator-style or blinking rocks) to power explosive turns
- Resets your own permanents to dodge auras, counters, and removal targeting
- Strong stax/lock potential by blinking control pieces like Detention Sphere or Strionic Resonator loops
Weaknesses
- Brago must connect in combat, so removal, blockers, or fogs shut the engine off
- Color identity lacks reliable creature recursion and tutors outside artifacts
- Slow to start and reliant on the commander being on the battlefield
- Vulnerable to graveyard-independent sweepers and flyer-stopping defenders before you protect him
Key Cards
- Strionic Resonator — Copies Brago's blink trigger, letting you blink twice per hit and enabling infinite loops with the right untappers.
- Aura of Silence — Blinking it taxes opponents' artifacts/enchantments each combat while providing repeatable removal.
- Peregrine Drake — Untaps five lands on every blink, fueling explosive turns and infinite mana loops with Strionic Resonator.
- Sol Ring — Fast ramp that also gets untapped value when blinked, accelerating you to a protected Brago.
- Master of Waves — Generates a wave of Elemental tokens each blink, building a board that closes games quickly.
- Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste protect Brago and let him attack the turn he resolves.
Upgrade Path
Add evasion and protection for Brago (Aqueous Form, Rogue's Passage, Lightning Greaves) so he connects consistently, then build toward a clean combo finish via Strionic Resonator with Peregrine Drake/Great Whale plus a flicker-payoff like Altar of the Brood. Tighten the mana base with fast rocks and ramp, and lean into stax pieces (Winter Orb, Static Orb) that hurt opponents more than you since you blink for free value.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Infinite blink loop (Strionic Resonator + untapper) into a flickerable wincon like Altar of the Brood or Aetherflux Reservoir
- ▸Snowballing token armies from Master of Waves or repeated ETB tokens for combat damage
- ▸Locking opponents out with stax pieces and grinding incremental value to a slow win
- ▸Repeated bounce/removal blinks (Aether Adept, Detention Sphere) stripping every threat until you swing freely
Archetypes
- Blink — Brago is the premier repeatable mass-blink commander, re-triggering every ETB you control each combat.
- Stax — Blinking taxing permanents like Aura of Silence and Detention Sphere creates oppressive lock pieces.
- Control — Blinking removal and value ETBs lets you grind out the table while protecting Brago.
- Combo — Strionic Resonator plus mana-untappers like Peregrine Drake enables infinite blink loops to win.
