Cid, Freeflier Pilot
The Commander
Equipment and Vehicle spells you cast cost less to cast.
Jump — During your turn, Cid has flying.
,
: Return target Equipment or Vehicle card from your graveyard to your hand.
Guide
Gameplan
Cid is a mono-white Equipment/Vehicle commander who cheats on cost and grinds value: drop her turn 2, then chain discounted gear and Vehicles while recurring your best pieces from the graveyard. You suit Cid up with Equipment to swing as an evasive (Jump gives her flying on your turn) Voltron threat, or flood the board with crewed Vehicles to attack from multiple angles.
Strengths
- Cost reduction makes Equipment- and Vehicle-heavy curves dramatically cheaper and lets you double-spell early
- Built-in graveyard recursion protects against artifact removal and refuels value
- Jump gives reliable evasion for commander damage without needing an extra slot
- Mono-white means cheap, consistent mana and access to white's equipment/artifact support
Weaknesses
- Mono-white struggles with raw card draw and ramp compared to other colors
- Vehicles need creatures/crew, so a wiped board can leave Vehicles inert
- Heavily reliant on the commander; if Cid is taxed or removed, the deck slows considerably
- Equipment Voltron is vulnerable to a single well-timed bounce or exile on the carrier
Key Cards
- Sigarda's Aid — Flash in Equipment and attach for free, turning Cid's discount into instant-speed Voltron pressure.
- Puresteel Paladin — Free Equipment attachment with metalcraft plus card draw turns your gear into an engine.
- Smuggler's Copter — Cheap, evasive Vehicle that loots and only needs a one-power crew, perfect for Cid's curve.
- Skullclamp — Mono-white's premier card-draw engine, made even cheaper and recurrable by Cid.
- Parhelion II — A discounted top-end Vehicle that closes games with a wall of flying Angels.
- Stoneforge Mystic — Tutors and cheats your best Equipment into play, complementing Cid's recursion.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and cost reducers (Sol Ring, Mind Stone, Foundry Inspector) to deploy your gear ahead of curve, and tutors like Stoneforge Mystic, Steelshaper's Gift, and Open the Armory to find key Equipment. Lean into protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves) and card advantage engines (Skullclamp, Puresteel Paladin, Welding Jar) so a single removal spell on Cid doesn't end your game. Trim clunky high-cost Vehicles for efficient evasive threats and add a Mistveil Plains/recursion package to never run out of gas.
