Havi, the All-Father
The Commander
Havi has indestructible as long as there are four or more historic cards in your graveyard. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic.)
Sage Project — Whenever Havi or another legendary creature you control dies, return target legendary creature card with lesser mana value from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
Guide
Gameplan
Havi turns your battlefield full of legendary creatures into a self-recurring value engine: when Havi or any other legendary creature dies, you reanimate a cheaper legendary creature tapped. Flood the board with impactful legends, sacrifice or trade them away, and chain enters/dies triggers while Havi stays hard to kill once you have four-plus historic cards in your yard. You grind opponents out with overwhelming card advantage and bodies, then close with a big payoff or combo.
Strengths
- Built-in recursion that refuels your board and protects against removal
- Conditional indestructibility makes Havi sticky and combat-resilient
- Naya colors have an enormous, deep pool of strong legendary creatures
- Synergizes naturally with aristocrats, blink, and sacrifice value engines
- Rewards a curve of varied mana values so you always have a reanimation target
Weaknesses
- Sage Project only returns creatures with strictly lesser mana value, so it can fizzle
- Six-mana commander that does nothing the turn it lands without setup
- Indestructibility doesn't stop exile, bounce, or sacrifice effects
- Color identity excludes black tutors and the best reanimation spells
- Legend rule causes friction with cards that want duplicates or generic value
Key Cards
- Goblin Bombardment — Free repeatable sacrifice outlet to trigger Sage Project on demand and convert dying legends into damage.
- Viscera Seer — Cheap sac outlet that lets you loop legendary deaths and scry through your deck.
- Jegantha, the Wellspring — A legendary creature that ramps and refills, and a natural Sage Project target.
- Reki, the History of Kamigawa — Draws a card every time you cast a legendary, fueling the deck's core engine.
- Kutzil's Flanking — Anthem and protection that rewards your wide legendary board (or use Marshal's Anthem-style recursion).
- Karmic Guide — Reanimates a creature on ETB and is itself a legendary loop piece with sacrifice outlets.
- Saheeli, the Gifted — Token and artifact value that plays into the historic count for Havi's indestructibility.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Birds of Paradise, Cultivate) so you stick Havi early and keep redeploying legends. Tighten the curve to ensure Sage Project always has a lesser-cost target, and add a free sacrifice outlet plus an aristocrats payoff (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat) to build a deterministic loop. Top-end finishers like Craterhoof Behemoth and protection like Heroic Intervention push it toward a focused, high-power kill.

Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelming board of recurring legendary creatures attacking for the win
- ▸Aristocrats drain via sacrifice outlets like Blood Artist and Goblin Bombardment
- ▸A sacrifice-loop combo recurring two legends for infinite triggers
- ▸Big mana payoffs (Craterhoof Behemoth, overrun effects) closing after grinding ahead
Archetypes
- Legendary Tribal Value — Havi rewards a critical mass of legendary creatures with constant recursion and card advantage.
- Aristocrats — Sacrifice outlets turn dying legends into Sage Project triggers and drain or burn.
- Reanimator — Pitch and recur legendary creatures, using Havi to cheat them back tapped for free.
- Blink/Value Midrange — Stacking enters-the-battlefield legends with recursion grinds opponents into the dirt.
