Marisi, Breaker of the Coil
The Commander
Your opponents can't cast spells during combat.
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, goad each creature that player controls. (Until your next turn, those creatures attack each combat if able and attack a player other than you if able.)
Guide
Gameplan
Marisi turns your opponents' boards against each other by goading their creatures, forcing politically chaotic combat while you sit safe and rebuild. You deploy a wide or evasive board, connect with Marisi to start goading, and let the table grind each other down while you finish with your own attackers, pillowfort defenses, or a combo. The 'no spells during combat' clause means opponents can't fog, flash blockers, or remove your attackers mid-combat.
Strengths
- Goad creates table chaos and lets opponents kill each other while you stay protected
- Combat lockdown stops instant-speed interaction during your attacks, making damage reliable
- Naya colors give access to powerful ramp, removal, and big payoffs
- Strong political deck that wins by attrition without needing to commit fully to the kill
Weaknesses
- Marisi must connect for combat damage to goad, so evasion or trample matters
- Relies on opponents having creatures—goad does nothing against creatureless control decks
- Four-color-restricted... actually three colors but lacks card draw and tutors compared to blue/black
- Vulnerable to fast combo decks that ignore the board entirely
- Removal-heavy metas can keep Marisi off the table
Key Cards
- Disrupt Decorum — Mass goad mirrors Marisi's effect and can swing an entire table's worth of creatures away from you.
- Grand Melee — Forces all creatures to attack each combat, amplifying the political chaos Marisi creates.
- Rite of the Raging Storm — Gives each opponent a goaded-style Elemental that must attack a player other than you, fueling carnage.
- Ghostly Prison — Pillowfort piece that taxes attacks back at you while goaded armies hit your opponents instead.
- Master of Cruelties — With Marisi forcing unblocked-style attacks and combat lockdown, it can drop an opponent to 1 life in one swing.
- Bloodthirster — Extra combat steps multiply Marisi's goad triggers and your own damage output.
Upgrade Path
Add more mass-goad effects (Disrupt Decorum, Karazikar effects) and pillowfort taxes (Propaganda, Crawlspace, Windborn Muse) to keep yourself safe while the table fights. Improve consistency with Naya tutors and ramp (Three Visits, Skyshroud Claim, Fellwar Stone) plus extra-combat enablers (Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebration) to multiply triggers. Round out with evasion/protection for Marisi like Swiftfoot Boots, Shadowspear, and Bloodforged Battle-Axe to ensure damage connects.

Archetypes
- Group Slug / Politics — Marisi weaponizes opponents' boards via goad, turning the table into your attackers.
- Voltron — Marisi can carry equipment/auras to reliably connect and goad while threatening commander damage.
- Pillowfort Control — Combat taxes and deterrents keep you safe while goaded creatures must attack elsewhere.
- Aggro Tokens — Wide boards let multiple creatures connect, spreading goad across the whole table.
