Melek, Izzet Paragon
The Commander
Play with the top card of your library revealed.
You may cast instant and sorcery spells from the top of your library.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your library, copy it. You may choose new targets for the copy.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast a critical mass of impactful instants and sorceries, leaning on Melek to copy spells from the top of your library for double value. You generate massive card and mana advantage with cantrips, draw, and rituals, then chain into a copied big-damage spell or storm finish to close the game.
Strengths
- Free spell copies double the value of every instant/sorcery cast off the top
- Excellent card advantage from drawing and casting off the library
- Scales hard with cost reducers and untap/extra-turn effects
- Can pivot between burn, control, and storm finishes
Weaknesses
- Melek costs six and does nothing the turn he lands
- Highly commander-dependent; copies stop the moment he's removed
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate and counterspells on key spells
- Top-of-library casting is inconsistent without scry/topdeck control
Key Cards
- Mystic Speculation — Buyback scry lets you sculpt the top card so Melek casts and copies exactly what you want.
- Sensei's Divining Top — Cheap repeatable topdeck manipulation to set up the spell Melek will cast and copy.
- Expansion // Explosion — A flexible copy spell that Melek doubles into a huge draw-and-burn finisher.
- Increasing Vengeance — Stacks with Melek's copy to triple a game-ending spell off the top.
- Mana Geyser — Copied by Melek it produces absurd mana to fuel a one-turn storm or X-spell kill.
- Underworld Breach — Recasts spells from the graveyard, turning copied rituals into an explosive combo turn.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Dockside Extortionist, ritual package) and cost reducers to deploy Melek early and chain spells. Tighten the topdeck manipulation suite (Sensei's Top, Brainstorm, Mystic Speculation) so copies hit the right spell, and include a dedicated storm or Aetherflux Reservoir win to convert all the value into lethal.

Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Melek doubles every instant and sorcery, rewarding a deck stuffed with high-impact spells.
- Storm — Copied rituals and cantrips inflate storm count for a single-turn kill.
- Control — Doubled counters, removal, and card draw let you out-resource the table.
