Paladin Danse, Steel Maverick
The Commander
Guide
Gameplan
Paladin Danse leads a mono-white aggressive go-wide army of artifact creatures and Humans, swinging in with vigilance and lifelink while protecting your board from wraths. Deploy efficient creatures and equipment early, build a wide attack, then exile Danse before a board wipe or combat to make your team indestructible. You grind out value through resilience and white's anthem/recursion package and close with a wide alpha strike.
Strengths
- Built-in board-wipe insurance: exiling Danse blanks Wrath effects and combat for a turn
- Vigilance + lifelink keeps you attacking while gaining life and holding back
- Strong tribal overlap—artifacts AND Humans both count, giving deep card support
- Mono-white consistency and access to cheap, powerful equipment and anthems
- Cheap commander that's fine to deploy turn three and protect later
Weaknesses
- Mono-white card draw is notoriously weak; can run out of gas
- No evasion engine baked in—wide boards get chump-blocked or swept by exile/bounce
- Indestructible doesn't stop exile, -X/-X, bounce, or sacrifice effects
- Protection is one-shot: once Danse is exiled he's gone unless you blink/recur him
- Lacks reach or inevitability against pure combo decks
Key Cards
- Skullclamp — Solves white's card-draw problem by sacrificing small artifact/Human tokens for two cards each.
- Anointed Procession — Doubles your token output to overwhelm the board with artifact and Human creatures.
- Smothering Tithe — Premier mono-white ramp and resource engine to power out your threats and equipment.
- Adeline, Resplendent Cathar — Generates a Human token per attacker, snowballing your go-wide plan with Danse's protection.
- Sram, Senior Edificer — Turns your equipment-heavy artifact build into a steady stream of cards.
- Cathars' Crusade — Each creature you cast pumps the whole team, turning a wide indestructible board into lethal.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and ramp (Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Land Tax) plus white's best card advantage (Welcoming Vampire, Esper Sentinel, Mentor of the Meek) to fix the color's draw weakness. Lean into blink/recursion like Flickerwisp or Brought Back to reuse Danse's protection more than once, and add a finisher such as Akroma's Will, Triumph of the Hordes, or Approach of the Second Sun for explosive closing power.
