Stiltzkin, Moogle Merchant
The Commander
,
: Target opponent gains control of another target permanent you control. If they do, you draw a card.
Guide
Gameplan
Stiltzkin turns your own permanents into a repeatable card-draw engine: tap him to donate a permanent to an opponent and refill your hand. You weaponize this by giving away cursed or downside permanents, regenerating tokens, or things you can reclaim, while leaning on white's powerful enchantments and stax pieces to grind out a value-driven advantage and close games with go-wide or enchantment-based wins.
Strengths
- Rare repeatable card advantage in mono-white, the format's most card-starved color
- Can hand off liabilities (Steel Golem, parasitic permanents) or creatures with drawbacks to opponents
- Cheap 1-mana commander with lifelink that comes down early and gains incidental life
- Highly political—gifts can buy time, deals, and goodwill
Weaknesses
- Mono-white means limited ramp, tutoring, and interaction
- Engine costs 2 generic plus a tap each activation, so it's slow without untap effects
- Giving opponents permanents can backfire if you don't pick harmless or harmful targets
- Susceptible to commander removal that shuts off the draw engine entirely
Key Cards
- Steel Golem — You donate it to lock an opponent out of casting creatures while you draw a card.
- Aetherflux Reservoir — Stiltzkin's lifelink plus token donation fuels life gain to fire off a 50-life kill.
- Smothering Tithe — Generates the treasure ramp mono-white desperately needs to fund repeated activations.
- Norn's Annex — A defensive enchantment that protects you while your slow donation engine grinds.
- Thousand Moons Smithy — Makes tokens you can profitably donate, turning the engine into card advantage and a board.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and treasure makers—Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and Marble Diamond—to fund repeat activations, plus untappers like Thousand-Year Elixir or Magewright's Stone to double your draws each turn. Prioritize a clean combo finish (Aetherflux Reservoir, or Felidar Sovereign with consistent lifegain) and protection like Teferi's Protection and Lightning Greaves to shield Stiltzkin. Round out with the best mono-white card advantage—Mangara, the Diplomat, Welcoming Vampire, and Esper Sentinel—so you aren't fully reliant on the commander.
