The Commander

Flurry — Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, copy it, then exile the spell you cast with four time counters on it. If it doesn't have suspend, it gains suspend. (At the beginning of its owner's upkeep, they remove a time counter. When the last is removed, they may play it without paying its mana cost. If it's a creature, it has haste.)

Guide

Gameplan

Cast cheap spells and trigger Flurry every turn: your second spell each turn gets copied immediately, then the original is suspended with four time counters to be recast for free later. You build a snowballing engine of doubled card advantage, counterspells, and bounce, eventually overwhelming the table with copied game-changers or recurring big spells off suspend.

Strengths

  • Doubles the value of your best spell every single turn, generating massive card and tempo advantage
  • Suspend recursion means your spells keep coming back free, giving relentless mid-to-late game inevitability
  • Cheap mono-blue body (2 MV) that's easy to recast and deploy on curve
  • Pairs naturally with counterspells, draw, and bounce to control the board while developing value

Weaknesses

  • Requires casting two spells a turn to do anything, straining mana and card-in-hand resources
  • No inherent board presence or defense—folds to fast aggro before the engine comes online
  • The four-turn suspend delay is slow, so the original spell's value is back-loaded
  • Heavy reliance on the commander; repeated removal or counters shut the deck down
  • Mono-color means limited interaction breadth and no access to powerful off-color answers

Key Cards

  • Mystic SanctuaryReturns a key instant/sorcery to the top of your library, fueling repeated second-spell triggers.
  • BrainstormCheap cantrip that easily serves as your first or second spell while smoothing draws.
  • Thousand-Year StormStacks with Flurry so your second spell is copied multiple times for explosive turns.
  • Archmage EmeritusTurns every instant/sorcery cast into extra cards, refilling the hand to keep the engine running.
  • Expansion // ExplosionExplosion copied by Flurry can draw a huge amount and deal lethal damage in one shot.
  • Aetherflux ReservoirCasting many spells gains life, then fires off a 50-damage table wipe as a clean wincon.

Upgrade Path

Lower your curve with more one- and two-mana cantrips and rituals so you can reliably hit your second spell early and stack multiple triggers. Add copy/storm payoffs (Thousand-Year Storm, Archmage Emeritus, Aetherflux Reservoir) and top-of-library tutors (Mystic Sanctuary, Personal Tutor, Spellseeker via colorless support) to control what Flurry copies. Finally, protect Taigam with counterspells and cheap protection like Heroic Intervention's blue analogs (Slip Out the Back, Spell Pierce) to keep the engine online.
