Gameplan
Unctus turns your blue and artifact creatures into a looting engine: tap them (via attacking, vehicles, or tap-outlets) to draw and discard, then convert key creatures into blue artifacts to pile on the team-wide +1/+1 anthem. You grind card advantage, build a wide artifact-creature board, and close with combat, mill, or a big tap-payoff finisher.
Strengths
- Steady card advantage and graveyard filling from every tap trigger, fueling reanimation and flashback payoffs
- Mono-blue gives access to the best counterspells, tutors, and protection in the format
- Doubles as a tribal payoff for both blue creatures and artifact creatures, two of the deepest card pools
- Cheap three-mana commander that immediately impacts the board and survives most spot removal due to low value
Weaknesses
- Mono-blue struggles with permanent-based removal; you rely on bounce and counters rather than hard answers
- Tap triggers only loot (draw then discard) for raw card quality, not pure advantage, unless paired with extra draw
- Without untap or tap outlets, you can be too passive and durdle
- Vulnerable to a board wipe wiping your accumulated artifact-creature engine, and to graveyard hate that undercuts your discards

Lean into a focused combo finish—Intruder Alarm loops or an artifact engine—so the card filtering converts into a deterministic win rather than just value. Upgrade mana base with duals/fetches and add protection like Heroic Intervention's blue analogs (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves) to keep Unctus online.
