Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
The Commander
Whenever another nontoken creature you control enters, bolster 1. (Choose a creature with the least toughness among creatures you control and put a +1/+1 counter on it.)
Guide
Gameplan
Anafenza is a mono-white +1/+1 counter aggro commander that snowballs your board every time a nontoken creature enters. You curve out with cheap creatures, trigger bolster repeatedly, then go wide and tall before alpha striking or comboing off. The deck wants to flood the board early and overwhelm with buffed, evasive threats.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that immediately pressures the board and rebuilds fast
- Mono-white gives access to the best counter synergies, anthems, and efficient removal/wraths that spare your team
- Bolster snowballs quickly with flicker/recursion loops since each nontoken creature ETB triggers it
- Strong proliferate and counter-doubling payoffs amplify every trigger
Weaknesses
- Mono-white means weak card advantage and no easy ramp
- Bolster ignores tokens, so it doesn't reward go-wide token strategies for counters
- Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your invested counters
- Commander-dependent; removing Anafenza shuts off the engine and she has no evasion herself
Key Cards
- Cathars' Crusade — Stacks +1/+1 counters on every creature ETB, multiplying Anafenza's bolster snowball into a runaway board.
- Doubling Season — Doubles every counter from bolster and proliferate, turning each trigger into massive stat gains.
- Hardened Scales — Cheap permanent that adds an extra counter to every bolster and counter placement.
- Conclave Mentor — Adds counters and gains life on each placement, reinforcing the counter engine on a body.
- Felidar Guardian — Blinks itself and other creatures to re-trigger ETB bolsters and any ETB value engines.
- Skullclamp — Mono-white's premier card draw, fueled by cheap creatures and disposable bodies to refill the hand.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize counter doublers (Doubling Season, Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution) and proliferate enablers to make each bolster trigger overwhelming, then add cheap blink and recursion to spam ETBs. Improve card advantage with Skullclamp, Welcoming Vampire, and Mentor of the Meek, plus mono-white ramp staples like Smothering Tithe and Sol Ring. Cap it with a reliable overrun (Craterhoof Behemoth, Cathars' Crusade plus a wide board) and protection like Heroic Intervention or Flawless Maneuver to dodge wraths.

- Blink — Repeatedly flickering nontoken creatures re-triggers bolster and ETB value to grind out advantage.
