Colonel Autumn
The Commander
Exploit (When this creature enters, you may sacrifice a creature.)
Other legendary creatures you control have exploit.
Whenever a creature you control exploits a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with legendary creatures, then loop sacrifice-and-replay value via exploit to grow your whole team with +1/+1 counters while draining life through aristocrats payoffs. You ramp into a critical mass of legends, exploit them (often sacrificing tokens or expendable creatures), and either go wide-and-tall for a beatdown or assemble a sacrifice combo for an instant kill.
Strengths
- Turns every legendary creature into a repeatable sacrifice engine that anthems your entire board with permanent counters
- Lifelink plus aristocrats drain keeps you safe from aggro while building inevitability
- Cheap, resilient three-mana commander that immediately impacts the board on cast via its own exploit
- Synergizes with two of the deepest themes in BW: sacrifice/aristocrats and the legends/superfriends matters package
Weaknesses
- Wants a high density of legendary creatures or sac fodder, which can create clunky, dependent draws
- Heavily reliant on the commander being on the battlefield; repeated removal stalls the whole counter engine
- No inherent card advantage or ramp—must lean on support pieces
- Board wipes are brutal since the strategy commits many creatures to the field
Key Cards
- Pitiless Plunderer — Generates Treasure every time you exploit a creature, fueling explosive replays and ramp.
- Blood Artist — Each exploited creature drains every opponent, turning your sacrifice loops into a win condition.
- Zulaport Cutthroat — Stacks with other drain effects so each exploit chips away at all opponents' life totals.
- Reveillark — Recurs your small legendary creatures so you can re-exploit them repeatedly for counters and value.
- Skullclamp — Converts exploited creatures and tokens into a relentless stream of cards, the best engine in any sac deck.
- Teysa Karlov — Doubles death and token triggers while being a legend that benefits from and grants exploit synergy.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Phyrexian Tower) and efficient recursion like Reveillark, Karmic Guide, and Sun Titan to chain exploits more often. Tighten the legendary count and include cheap reanimators plus a dedicated drain combo such as Pitiless Plunderer + Reveillark/Karmic Guide loops with a Blood Artist. Round out with protection (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) so your committed board survives wraths.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects looping sacrifice and reanimation
- ▸Going wide with a counter-boosted board and swinging for lethal lifelink damage
- ▸Infinite exploit loops (e.g., recursion engine + free sac outlet + drain payoff) draining all opponents at once
- ▸Grinding opponents out with overwhelming card and life-total advantage from constant sacrifice value
Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Exploit is free sacrifice that pairs perfectly with death-trigger drain payoffs to win without combat.
- +1/+1 Counters — Every exploit grows your whole team, letting you go tall and wide for a counters-based beatdown.
- Combo — Repeatable sacrifice loops with a free sac creature and a drain payoff enable infinite-style kills.
- Reanimator — Cheaply recurring sacrificed legends and creatures lets you re-trigger exploit for value and counters.
