The Commander

. Spend this mana only to cast instant and/or sorcery spells.
When Cormela dies, return up to one target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard to your hand.
Guide
Gameplan
Cormela is a Grixis spellslinger commander that ramps your instants and sorceries and recurs them when she dies. Cast a steady stream of burn, card draw, and control spells while leveraging her mana and recursion to out-value opponents, then close with a big X-spell, storm payoff, or combo. Use her haste and death trigger aggressively—she's fine to sacrifice or trade for value.
Strengths
- Free spell ramp specifically for instants/sorceries enables explosive turns
- Built-in recursion buffers against removal and reuses your best spell
- Grixis colors give the deck's best card draw, burn, and counterspells
- Haste lets her tap for mana the turn she enters
Weaknesses
- Fragile 3-mana body that dies to any removal, costing tempo
- Mana only works for instants/sorceries, useless for artifacts/creatures
- No protection or evasion built in
- Heavily reliant on the command zone for the engine to function
Key Cards
- Underworld Breach — Turns Cormela's mana and a graveyard full of spells into a game-ending storm or combo engine.
- Brain Freeze — With Underworld Breach and ritual mana it mills opponents out as a storm finisher.
- Jeska's Will — Massive ritual that fuels big instant/sorcery turns alongside Cormela's mana.
- Mizzix's Mastery — Recasts your bombs for cheap, and Cormela's mana can help pay for it.
- Snapcaster Mage — Flashes back key spells from the yard, doubling your recursion alongside Cormela's death trigger.
- Reiterate — With ritual mana creates infinite mana or copies of a kill spell.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, Dark Ritual, rituals) and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Gamble) to assemble Underworld Breach combos consistently. Tighten the spell suite toward efficient interaction and powerful payoffs, cut clunky high-cost cards, and include sac outlets or self-bounce to abuse her death trigger on demand.
