The Commander

{T}: Add {C}{C}. Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells or activate abilities of artifacts.

Equipped creatures you control have flying and haste.

Guide

Gameplan

Dalakos ramps into your artifacts and supercharges Equipment by giving equipped creatures flying and haste. You play a low-curve artifact/equipment shell, suit up a creature, and swing for evasive lethal damage as early as possible while protecting your threat. Alternatively you go wide on artifacts and grind value, using Dalakos's mana to power costly artifact bombs and abilities.

Strengths

  • Built-in ramp that accelerates artifact spells and abilities every turn
  • Turns any Equipment-carrying creature into an evasive, immediate threat with flying + haste
  • Cheap three-mana commander that fits comfortably into aggressive Voltron curves
  • Izzet gives access to top-tier card advantage, tutors, and counterspells
  • Flying + haste lets you race and end games quickly before opponents stabilize

Weaknesses

  • Heavily commander-dependent; without Dalakos your equipped creatures lose evasion and speed
  • Vulnerable to creature/equipment removal and board wipes that undo your investment
  • Colorless mana restriction limits Dalakos's mana to artifacts only, not spells or interaction
  • Voltron lines can be hated out by edicts, fog effects, and damage prevention
  • Two-color identity lacks efficient enchantment/artifact removal and recursion of black/green

Key Cards

  • Sword of Feast and FamineUntaps your lands for explosive double-spell turns and gives protection plus a discard hit, ideal on a flying haste carrier.
  • Hammer of NazahnAuto-attaches, grants indestructible, and stacks perfectly with Dalakos's flying and haste for a hard-to-answer threat.
  • Sigarda's AidLets you flash and attach Equipment at instant speed for surprise lethal swings and combat tricks.
  • Puresteel PaladinFree Equipment attachment with metalcraft and card draw fuels an explosive Voltron engine.
  • Stoneforge MysticTutors and cheats your best Equipment into play, dramatically accelerating the Voltron plan.
  • EmbercleaveCost-reduced finisher that gives double strike and trample, turning one swing into a kill with Dalakos's flying.

Upgrade Path

Tighten the curve with the best cheap Equipment (the Swords, Hammer of Nazahn, Embercleave) and enablers like Stoneforge Mystic, Puresteel Paladin, and Sigarda's Aid for free attaches. Add protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Heroic Intervention, counterspells) so your single threat survives removal, and lean on Izzet card advantage and fast mana like Sol Ring and Mana Crystals to deploy and equip in the same turn. For higher power, include a backup commander-independent finisher and more interaction to avoid being a one-creature deck.
