Glarb, Calamity's Augur
The Commander
Deathtouch
You may look at the top card of your library any time.
You may play lands and cast spells with mana value 4 or greater from the top of your library.
: Surveil 2.
Guide
Gameplan
Glarb turns the top of your library into a second hand, letting you cast big-mana-value spells (4+) and play lands off the top while surveiling to set up exactly what you want. You build mana and card advantage, dig with surveil to bury answers in the graveyard and stack threats on top, then snowball into game-ending payoffs. Deathtouch keeps Glarb a relevant blocker while the engine grinds opponents out.
Strengths
- Massive sustained card advantage by casting big spells off the top library
- Surveil 2 every turn fuels graveyard synergies, reanimation, and self-mill payoffs
- Cheap 3-mana commander that's hard to profitably block thanks to deathtouch
- BUG colors give access to the best ramp, removal, and card selection in the format
Weaknesses
- Only helps with MV 4+ off the top, so cheap spells still clog the line of play
- Library disruption or graveyard hate (Bojuka Bog, Rest in Peace) blunts the engine
- Top-of-library effects are random without enough surveil/scry to smooth them
- Glarb itself is a high-priority removal target and the deck slows without him
Key Cards
- Sensei's Divining Top — Lets you reorder the top of your library on demand to guarantee a castable spell every turn.
- Etali, Primal Conqueror — A huge top-deck cast that snowballs into more free spells and is exactly the MV Glarb wants to cheat.
- Mystic Confluence — Flexible MV5 instant you can cast straight off the top for card draw, bounce, or counters.
- Lurking Predators — Compounds Glarb by flipping creatures into play whenever opponents cast, while you control the top with surveil.
- Worldly Tutor — Stacks any big creature on top of your library for an immediate free cast next turn.
Upgrade Path
Add top-of-library manipulation (Sensei's Divining Top, Brainstorm, scry effects, Vampiric Tutor) so every Glarb activation finds gas, and lean on fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, signets) to deploy multiple top-deck spells per turn. Tighten the curve toward high-impact MV4+ bombs and dual win lines (reanimation plus a compact combo) so a single Glarb removal doesn't stall you. Round out with strong interaction and graveyard recursion to protect the engine against the inevitable hate.

Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelming card advantage grinding opponents out with big threats and removal
- ▸Reanimating a game-ending fatty like Jin-Gitaxias or Sheoldred
- ▸Casting a free haymaker (Etali, Craterhoof, Insurrection) straight off the top
- ▸A combo finish such as Mikaeus + Triskelion assembled with surveil card selection
Archetypes
- Big-Mana Midrange/Goodstuff — Glarb rewards a curve loaded with impactful MV4+ bombs you can cast for free off the top.
- Reanimator — Surveil 2 each turn dumps fatties into the yard to cheat back with reanimation spells.
- Spellslinger/Control — Casting expensive instants and counterspells off the top gives a relentless card-advantage engine.
- Lands/Ramp — Playing lands from the top accelerates you and synergizes with surveil and ramp payoffs.
