Imskir Iron-Eater

Mana value8EDHREC#6,648

The Commander

Affinity for artifacts (This spell costs {1} less to cast for each artifact you control.)

When Imskir enters, you draw X cards and you lose X life, where X is half the number of artifacts you control, rounded down.

{3}{R}, Sacrifice an artifact: Imskir deals damage equal to the sacrificed artifact's mana value to any target.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with cheap artifacts to cast Imskir for a fraction of its cost, refill your hand on entry, then convert those artifacts into direct damage to burn out opponents or destroy their creatures. You play out as an artifact-aggro/aristocrats hybrid, ramping with mana rocks and Treasures while building a critical mass that lets Imskir machine-gun the table.

Strengths

  • Affinity makes an 8-mana demon castable for as little as a few mana once your board develops
  • Built-in card draw on ETB refuels your hand, rewarding heavy artifact counts
  • Repeatable, flexible removal/burn that hits any target including players
  • Black-red gives access to Treasure generation, sac fodder, and reanimation to recast Imskir

Weaknesses

  • The activated ability is mana-hungry at {3}{R} each shot, so you can't fire it off freely
  • Heavily reliant on artifacts—board wipes and artifact removal (Vandalblast, Bane of Progress) cripple you
  • Losing life equal to half your artifacts on entry can be punishing in fast metas
  • Imskir himself does little the turn he lands without sac fodder already in play

Key Cards

  • Krark-Clan IronworksTurns artifacts into a flood of mana to repeatedly fuel Imskir's {3}{R} sacrifice ability.
  • Goblin WelderRecurs and recycles artifacts as sac fodder, smoothing the engine and reanimating fallen rocks.
  • Marionette MasterEach sacrificed artifact drains opponents, stacking with Imskir's damage as an alternate kill.
  • Mycosynth LatticeMakes every permanent an artifact, turbocharging affinity, draw, and giving huge mana-value sac targets.
  • Disciple of the VaultDrains life every time an artifact dies, converting your sacrifices into incremental wins.
  • Sword of the MeekLoops with Thopter Foundry for endless artifact tokens to feed both card draw and the burn ability.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and rocks (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mox Opal) to deploy artifacts faster and lower Imskir's cost sooner. Build toward a dedicated combo line—Krark-Clan Ironworks plus Scrap Trawler/Myr Retriever, or Thopter Foundry plus Sword of the Meek—so the sacrifice ability becomes lethal in one turn. Finally, include strong artifact recursion and reanimation (Goblin Welder, Daretti, Reanimate) to rebuild after wipes and recast Imskir repeatedly.

  • Aristocrat drains via Disciple of the Vault or Marionette Master as artifacts are sacrificed
