Kaalia, Zenith Seeker
The Commander
Flying, vigilance
When Kaalia enters, look at the top six cards of your library. You may reveal an Angel card, a Demon card, and/or a Dragon card from among them and put them into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast Kaalia early as a flying, vigilant card-advantage engine that digs for your best Angels, Demons, and Dragons every time she enters. Flood the board with powerful fatties through cheating and ramp, then close games with evasive beatdown and high-impact ETB or attack triggers. Keep replaying her via blink or recursion to refill your hand all game.
Strengths
- Provides repeatable, color-fixed card advantage that refills your hand with bombs every cast
- Cheap three-mana commander that's hard to remove tax with and easy to recast
- Flying and vigilance let her attack and still defend
- Mardu colors give access to the best removal, ramp, and reanimation
Weaknesses
- Selection whiffs if your top six lacks an Angel, Demon, or Dragon — tribal density matters
- Does not cheat creatures into play herself (unlike the original Kaalia of the Vast), so you still pay full price
- Reliant on expensive top-end that can clog your hand without ramp or cheat effects
- Vulnerable to board wipes and graveyard hate against your reanimation plan
Key Cards
- Kaalia of the Vast — The original Kaalia cheats Angels, Demons, and Dragons into play on attack, perfectly synergizing with this version's card filtering.
- Reanimate — Cheats your most expensive Angels, Demons, or Dragons directly into play for one mana, bypassing their massive costs.
- Buried Alive — Stocks the graveyard with bombs to fuel your reanimation package.
- Lurking Predators — Turns every spell into a chance to drop a free fatty, multiplying your top-end.
- Conspiracy — Makes all your creatures Angels/Demons/Dragons (and clerics), boosting Kaalia's hit rate and tribal payoffs.
- Sneak Attack — Puts your giant Angels, Demons, and Dragons into play for one red mana to swing immediately.
Upgrade Path
Tighten your creature base so the top six almost always contains a hittable type, then add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Ancient Tomb) and cheat-into-play enablers (Sneak Attack, Quicksilver Amulet, Through the Breach). Layer in a reanimation core (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Buried Alive, Entomb) and protection like Teferi's Protection or Deflecting Swat to defend your board, while blink effects such as Conjurer's Closet maximize Kaalia's filtering.
Core Cards

Win Conditions
- ▸Evasive beatdown with stacked Angels, Demons, and Dragons
- ▸Big ETB and attack-trigger payoffs like Rakdos the Defiler or Master of Cruelties
- ▸Reanimating or cheating multiple fatties to overwhelm the board
- ▸Aristocrats drain via Demon engines like Bedevil-adjacent sac loops
Archetypes
- Reanimator — Mardu access to Reanimate, Animate Dead, and discard outlets lets you cheat your huge tribal bombs into play cheaply.
- Tribal Beatdown — Angels, Demons, and Dragons fill the deck and Kaalia keeps refueling your hand for evasive aggression.
- Cheat-into-Play / Aristocrats hybrid — Sneak Attack, Sneak Attack-style effects, and sacrifice synergies turn expensive creatures into immediate value.
- Blink/Value — Flicker effects re-trigger Kaalia's enter ability for repeated card advantage.
