Kami of the Crescent Moon
The Commander
At the beginning of each player's draw step, that player draws an additional card.
Guide
Gameplan
Kami forces everyone (including you) to draw an extra card each turn, accelerating the game toward decking. You either weaponize that extra draw against opponents with mill and draw-punishers, or hijack the symmetry with Notion Thief and Leovold-style effects to bury the table in card advantage while you alone reap the rewards before winning with a deckout or self-mill payoff.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that immediately generates a recurring advantage engine
- Mono-blue access to the best counterspells, card draw, and tempo tools in the format
- Turns symmetric draw into one-sided power with Notion Thief or Narset effects
- Multiple win angles: deckout, self-mill combo, and incidental draw-damage punishers
Weaknesses
- The extra draws help opponents too, fueling their best decks if you don't punish them
- Mono-blue lacks removal and board wipes, leaving you soft to wide aggro and big creatures
- Can deck yourself out if you over-draw without a Thassa's Oracle/Laboratory Maniac safety valve
- Low board presence makes you vulnerable to fast clocks while you set up
Key Cards
- Notion Thief — With Kami, every opponent's extra draw becomes a card for you instead, flipping the symmetry hard in your favor.
- Psychosis Crawler — Doubled draws each turn drain every opponent for chunks of life, turning your engine into a clock.
- Sphinx's Tutelage — Each extra draw triggers a mill, accelerating opponents toward an empty library deckout.
- Thassa's Oracle — Your own accelerated draws can empty your deck fast, so this provides a clean self-mill win and a fail-safe.
- Teferi's Puzzle Box — Combined with extra draws it churns hands and rapidly thins libraries toward a deckout win.
- Consecrated Sphinx — Stacks more draw on top of Kami, snowballing your hand into uncontested card advantage.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault) and strong interaction (Cyclonic Rift, Mana Drain, Force of Will) to protect the engine and close faster. Lean into one-sided draw with Narset, Parter of Veils and Notion Thief, and tighten your deckout/combo finish with Jace, Wielder of Mysteries plus the Oracle line. Round out with cantrips and tutors like Mystical Tutor to find your win pieces consistently.

Win Conditions
- ▸Deck opponents out with extra draws plus mill effects like Sphinx's Tutelage and Teferi's Puzzle Box
- ▸Drain the table with Psychosis Crawler or similar draw-damage punishers
- ▸Self-mill into Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac for an instant win
- ▸Win the long game on raw card advantage funneled through Notion Thief
Archetypes
- Group Hug / Wheel — Kami's symmetric draw is the core of a draw-everyone-out shell built around forced draw and library depletion.
- Mill / Deckout — Extra draws plus Sphinx's Tutelage and Teferi's Puzzle Box rush opponents through their libraries.
- Control — Mono-blue counters and bounce protect the engine while you out-card the table.
- Combo — Self-mill into Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac gives a compact win that abuses your own accelerated draws.
