Lyra Dawnbringer
The Commander
Flying
First strike (This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike.)
Lifelink (Damage dealt by this creature also causes you to gain that much life.)
Other Angels you control get +1/+1 and have lifelink.
Guide
Gameplan
Lyra is a mono-white Angel tribal commander that floods the board with flying lifelink beaters, anthems them, and wins through evasive combat damage backed by a mountain of life. Early turns ramp and protect, mid-game you deploy Angels and stax pieces, then close with a wide, hard-to-block, lifelinking sky army.
Strengths
- Cheap, repeatable mono-white ramp via Treasures and artifacts keeps Angels coming online
- Lifelink across the whole team makes you nearly impossible to race or burn out
- Flying evasion means your beaters connect through most ground-based boards
- White excels at board wipes you survive better than opponents, and at protective pieces
Weaknesses
- Single-color means weak access to card advantage and ramp compared to other colors
- Heavily reliant on the commander; losing Lyra repeatedly under high command tax stalls you
- Vulnerable to mass removal, exile effects, and flyer-relevant sweepers
- Limited interaction with the stack and combos compared to blue/black decks
Key Cards
- Lyra Dawnbringer — The anthem and lifelink engine that turns every other Angel into a lethal, life-padding threat.
- Resplendent Angel — With Lyra's lifelink and pumps, gaining 5+ life each end step spawns free 4/4 Angels.
- Smothering Tithe — Mono-white's premier ramp, fueling expensive Angels and protection spells every turn.
- Heliod, Sun-Crowned — Doubles lifegain triggers and synergizes with the lifelink theme to snowball your board.
- Sephara, Sky's Blade — Cheap with flyers out, gives the team indestructible to blank board wipes and removal.
- Path to Exile — Cheap, color-appropriate removal to clear blockers or kill problem threats.
Upgrade Path
Add efficient ramp and protection (Smothering Tithe, Land Tax, Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver) so Lyra sticks and rebuilds fast. Lean into the lifegain engine with Heliod, Sun-Crowned, Bishop of Wombwell payoffs, and Angelic equipment like Swiftfoot Boots for haste; trim vanilla Angels for ones with evasion-relevant abilities. For higher power, include Cathars' Crusade, Divine Visitation, and Sword of Feast and Famine to convert your wide board into game-ending pressure.
