Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer
The Commander
When Rocco enters, if you cast it, you may search your library for a creature card with mana value X or less, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast Rocco with as much X as you can afford to tutor any creature with mana value X or less directly onto the battlefield, fetching a combo piece or bomb. From there you grind value, recast Rocco off blink/recursion, and either assemble a creature-based combo or beat down with a swarm. The early game ramps hard so a big X-Rocco lands a haymaker on turn 4-6.
Strengths
- Built-in tutor-to-battlefield that fixes any creature-based plan or combo on cast
- Naga GRW colors give the best ramp, blink, and recursion to recast Rocco repeatedly
- Flexible: the fetch scales with available mana so it stays relevant all game
- Cheap commander (MV 3) that snowballs with mana doublers and cost reducers
Weaknesses
- The trigger only works if you CAST Rocco, so it's reliant on a 3-mana commander surviving
- Tutored creature has no haste and can be killed before it does anything
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate, counterspells, and removal on the cast trigger window
- Needs ramp to make X large; a small Rocco fetches little of value
Key Cards
- Cloudstone Curio — Lets you bounce and recast Rocco repeatedly, chaining tutors for an instant combo engine.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — A premier X-Rocco target that ends games the turn you have a board.
- Doubling Cube — Mana doublers let you cast Rocco with a massive X to fetch your biggest bombs.
- Temur Sabertooth — Bounces Rocco at instant speed to protect it and re-trigger the search.
- Birthing Pod — Synergizes with Rocco's creature toolbox to chain into combo pieces.
- Yawgmoth, Thran Physician — A key aristocrats/combo target you can tutor onto the battlefield with Rocco.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and doublers (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Doubling Cube, Mirari's Wake) so Rocco's X is reliably huge, plus instant-speed blink/bounce (Temur Sabertooth, Cloudstone Curio) to abuse the cast trigger. Lean into a tight two-card creature combo you can tutor for, and round out with protection like Heroic Intervention and Lightning Greaves so Rocco resolves and survives. Tutors like Worldly Tutor and Eladamri's Call let you stock the perfect creature before the X-cast.

Win Conditions
- ▸Craterhoof Behemoth or other overrun effect for one big alpha strike
- ▸Creature combo loops (e.g., persist + sac outlet, Kiki-Jiki) assembled by tutoring pieces
- ▸Incremental value beatdown with a tutored toolbox of bombs
- ▸Aristocrats drain via repeated sacrifice engines fetched by Rocco
Archetypes
- Combo — Rocco tutors creature combo pieces (Kiki/Restoration Angel, persist loops) straight onto the battlefield on cast.
- Blink — Flickering Rocco recasts the ETB tutor for repeatable value via Cloudstone Curio, Temur Sabertooth, or blink spells.
- Ramp / Big Creatures — Mana acceleration enables huge X to fetch game-ending fatties like Craterhoof.
- Aristocrats — Fetch sacrifice engines and payoffs like Yawgmoth to grind value and drain the table.
