When Sharuum enters, you may return target artifact card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Guide

Gameplan

Sharuum is an Esper artifact midrange/combo commander that rebuilds your board by reanimating an artifact every time she enters. You ramp with mana rocks, grind value off your best artifacts, and then assemble a two-card combo to win out of nowhere — usually a clone of Sharuum plus a sacrifice payoff. Until then you play a controlling artifact-matters game with strong card advantage and recursion.

Strengths

  • Built-in recursion that turns every recast into value and protects key artifacts from removal
  • Access to the most powerful colorless artifact toolbox plus Esper interaction (counters, removal, tutors)
  • Hosts an extremely compact, tutorable infinite combo for a clean win
  • Deep card advantage and graveyard synergies make it resilient to attrition
  • Esper colors give the best artifact tutors in the game

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on artifacts, so Vandalblast, Bane of Progress, and Null Rod-style hate are crippling
  • Sharuum costs six and the combo telegraphs itself, drawing removal and graveyard hate
  • Commander tax stacks quickly if she's repeatedly killed or the combo is interrupted
  • Can be slow and clunky in non-combo builds without enough early interaction
  • Three-color mana base with colorless demands strains consistency

Key Cards

  • Sculpting SteelEnters as a copy of Sharuum, creating a legend-rule loop that fuels the infinite combo.
  • Phyrexian MetamorphSecond clone enabler that triggers Sharuum's reanimation off the legend rule for free.
  • Disciple of the VaultTurns the artifact death loop into infinite life loss, killing the whole table.
  • Nim DeathmantlePairs with sacrifice outlets and treasure/mana to recur Sharuum and grind value or combo.
  • Salvaging StationEngine that recurs cheap artifacts and combos with sacrifice payoffs for repeatable triggers.
  • Vampiric TutorFinds the missing combo piece or answer at instant speed for a consistent kill.
  • Tezzeret the SeekerTutors artifacts to the battlefield and untaps rocks, fetching combo pieces directly.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Chrome Mox) and more tutors (Demonic Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Whir of Invention) to find combo pieces faster. Tighten the combo package with Marionette Master, Time Sieve, or Krark-Clan Ironworks lines and add protection like Silence, Veil of Summer, or counterspells. Upgrade the mana base with shocklands, fetches, and fast rocks to support a turn 4-5 combo kill.
