Vito, Fanatic of Aclazotz
The Commander
Flying
Whenever you sacrifice another permanent, you gain 2 life if this is the first time this ability has resolved this turn. If it's the second time, each opponent loses 2 life. If it's the third time, create a 4/3 white and black Vampire Demon creature token with flying.
Guide
Gameplan
Vito turns sacrifice triggers into a tiered payoff engine: get to three sacrifices a turn to gain life, drain opponents, and spawn evasive 4/3 fliers. You build a token-and-fodder board, loop sac outlets to hit all three tiers every turn, and grind opponents out with repeated drains plus an expanding squad of flying beaters.
Strengths
- Reliable repeatable life drain and lifegain that fuels other payoffs
- Builds a wide flying board out of nothing, providing both offense and chump fodder
- Cheap, evasive commander that survives most removal and rebuilds value quickly
- Deep, well-supported BW aristocrats card pool with tons of redundancy
Weaknesses
- Needs three separate sacrifices each turn to maximize, demanding a steady fodder supply
- Slow to close without a dedicated drain payoff or combo finish
- Vulnerable to graveyard hate and board wipes that strip your fodder engine
- Token strategy folds to mass removal if you over-commit
Key Cards
- Phyrexian Altar — Free, repeatable sac outlet that lets you fire all three Vito tiers and refunds mana for loops.
- Ashnod's Altar — Another no-mana sac outlet enabling multiple triggers per turn and combo loops.
- Bastion of Remembrance — Doubles your drain by punishing opponents on every creature death alongside Vito's triggers.
- Pitiless Plunderer — Generates Treasure on each death, fueling sac loops and ramp simultaneously.
- Bitterblossom — A free token every upkeep gives you endless cheap fodder for Vito's tiers.
- Grave Pact — Turns each of your sacrifices into a board-wide edict, controlling the table while you trigger Vito.
Upgrade Path
Add free sac outlets (Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer) and aristocrats payoffs (Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, Bastion of Remembrance) so any death loop becomes lethal. Include reanimation-and-sac engines or persist combos like Reassembling Skeleton with an altar for infinite triggers, plus Pitiless Plunderer for mana to fuel them. Round out with tutors (Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent) and protection like Teferi's Protection to safeguard your engine through wipes.
