Will, Scion of Peace
The Commander
: Spells you cast this turn that are white and/or blue cost
less to cast, where X is the amount of life you gained this turn. Activate only as a sorcery.
Guide
Gameplan
Gain life each turn, then tap Will to make your white/blue spells cost up to that much less—often casting bombs, board wipes, and big X-spells for free. You play a controlling lifegain shell that snowballs into a single explosive turn where you chain cheap spells into a game-ending payoff. Will essentially converts lifegain into mana, so the deck wants reliable, repeatable life triggers and high-impact UW spells.
Strengths
- Turns incidental lifegain into massive mana discounts, enabling explosive turns
- UW gives premium removal, board wipes, counters, and card draw
- Vigilance lets Will attack or sit back while still enabling the discount
- Snowballs hard once a lifegain engine is online
Weaknesses
- Will's ability is sorcery-speed and only counts life gained that turn, so it needs setup
- Heavily commander-dependent—removing Will stalls the engine
- UW lacks fast ramp and direct life-total kill outside combat or combo
- Vulnerable to graveyard/lifegain hate and stax that taxes activated abilities
Key Cards
- Aetherflux Reservoir — Converts your stacked lifegain into a one-card win by paying 50 life to snipe each opponent.
- Bishop of Wings — Generates repeatable life and angel tokens with any Angel ETB/death, fueling Will's discount.
- Approach of the Second Sun — A cheap-with-Will payoff that pairs naturally with the lifegain shell to win outright.
- Archangel of Thune — Anthem plus life-into-counters engine that scales with your constant lifegain.
- Felidar Sovereign — Wins the game outright at 40+ life, trivial to reach in this deck.
- Sphinx's Revelation — Massive lifegain and card draw in one spell, then Will makes the rest of the turn nearly free.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and efficient lifegain engines (Soul Warden effects, Bolas's Citadel synergy, Sanguine Bond/Exquisite Blood with life payoffs) to reach explosive Will turns sooner. Prioritize tutors like Enlightened Tutor and Mystical Tutor to assemble Aetherflux Reservoir or Approach, and lean on protection (Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention analogs, counterspells) to defend your engine. Trim slow value cards for instant-speed lifegain so you can ambush-stack life and combo off in one window.
