Why is this card good?
Clifftop Retreat is a premium dual land for any Boros (R/W) deck, and that's a low bar — Boros notoriously lacks good fixing, so you take what you can get. The "checkland" design is its strength: as long as you control any Mountain or Plains (including dual-typed lands like Sacred Foundry or Battlefield Forge that count as basics), it enters untapped. By turn 3-4 in a developed mana base, it's effectively a painless untapped dual.
Run it in essentially every two-color Boros deck — aggressive equipment/voltron, tokens, or stax shells like Winota or aggressive Aurelia builds. It plays great alongside fetchable shocklands and Plains/Mountain basics.
The only real downside: it can whiff early if your opener is light on basic-typed lands, entering tapped on turn one or two when you most want tempo. In greedy three-plus color decks it's less reliable since you're running fewer R/W basic-types. Otherwise, it's an easy include with virtually no opportunity cost.
