Sulfurous Springs is a classic "painland" and one of the better dual-land options for two-color Rakdos decks. The key selling point: it enters untapped and produces both your colors immediately, with zero conditions. In a format where tempo on turns 1-3 matters, untapped fixing is worth a few points of life.
That life loss is genuinely trivial in Commander — you start at 40, and you rarely tap it for colored mana more than a handful of times before drawing other lands. The colorless option also lets you ping yourself for nothing when you just need generic mana.
Play it in any Rakdos deck — aristocrats, sacrifice, spellslinger, hyper-aggressive Rakdos commanders — especially lower-budget builds where premium duals (Blood Crypt, fetch+shock) are too pricey.
When to skip it: in dedicated life-total-matters decks (Death's Shadow-style payoffs aside) or extremely greedy 3+ color manabases where you'd rather run trilands and shocks. Otherwise, it's a fine, cheap inclusion.
