Alibou, Ancient Witness
The Commander
Other artifact creatures you control have haste.
Whenever one or more artifact creatures you control attack, Alibou deals X damage to any target and you scry X, where X is the number of tapped artifacts you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with artifact creatures, give them haste with Alibou, and turn a wide attack into a massive damage trigger by counting all your tapped artifacts. Each combat pings opponents or creatures for big damage while scrying, and you snowball with mana rocks, treasures, and cheap artifact bodies that all count toward X.
Strengths
- Combat damage triggers can kill players or creatures without dealing combat damage, dodging blockers and fog effects
- Mana rocks and Treasures double as both ramp and fuel for X, so ramp is never dead
- Free haste on all artifact creatures means immediate aggression and surprise alpha strikes
- Reliable scry every combat smooths draws and finds answers
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on Alibou being on the battlefield; gets worse with each recast and removal slows you greatly
- Vulnerable to board wipes since the deck commits many artifact creatures to the field
- Artifact-heavy builds fold to artifact hate like Vandalblast and Bane of Progress
- Lacks built-in card advantage outside scry, can run out of gas
Key Cards
- Kuldotha Forgemaster — Sacrifices three artifacts to tutor any artifact, and being an artifact creature it attacks under Alibou.
- Reckless Fireweaver — Pings opponents whenever an artifact enters, adding a parallel damage engine alongside Alibou's triggers.
- Unwinding Clock — Untaps all your artifacts on each opponent's turn, keeping a high tapped-artifact count and enabling repeated effects.
- Cogwork Assembler — Repeatable token-copying engine that adds bodies and tapped artifacts to scale Alibou's damage.
- Magda, Brazen Outlaw — Generates Treasures off your dwarf and artifact synergies, ramping while padding the tapped-artifact count.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the curve with efficient mana rocks (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Signets) that double as X-fuel, and add untap enablers like Clock of Omens and Unwinding Clock to maximize tapped artifacts. Include protection such as Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots to keep Alibou online, plus tutors like Kuldotha Forgemaster and Inventors' Fair. For a higher-power finish, lean into pinger combos (Reckless Fireweaver, Disciple of the Vault) and recursion to grind through board wipes.
