Reyav, Master Smith
The Commander
Whenever a creature you control that's enchanted or equipped attacks, that creature gains double strike until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Reyav turns one creature into a double-striking monster by equipping or enchanting it, then swinging for lethal commander damage or huge chunks. You ramp into Equipment/Auras early, suit up an evasive carrier (ideally Reyav or a hexproof creature), and connect for double strike to close games fast.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that immediately enables a Voltron kill
- Double strike doubles all combat triggers, on-hit effects, and lifelink/deathtouch synergies
- Boros has excellent Equipment tutors and protection (Stoneforge, Sram, Puresteel)
- Fast, focused clock that can kill an opponent out of nowhere with commander damage
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on a single attacker—vulnerable to spot removal and board wipes
- Boros lacks card draw and ramp without Equipment-based engines
- Easily blunted by fogs, blockers, and 'can't be attacked' effects
- If Reyav and the carrier are removed, the deck stalls hard
Key Cards
- Sigarda's Aid — Flashes in Equipment and auto-attaches at instant speed, enabling surprise double-strike alpha strikes.
- Colossus Hammer — Cheap +10/+10 that turns any double-striking creature into a one-shot kill, especially with free-equip enablers.
- Sram, Senior Edificer — Refills your hand off every Aura and Equipment, solving the deck's card-draw problem.
- Puresteel Paladin — Free Equipment attaches with metalcraft, letting you load up a carrier and swing the same turn.
- Shadowspear — Grants trample to push double-strike damage through and strips opponents' hexproof/indestructible.
- Generous Gift — Premium Boros removal to clear blockers or threats since the colors are removal-rich but draw-poor.
Upgrade Path
Add free-equip enablers (Sigarda's Aid, Puresteel Paladin, Leonin Shikari) and the Stoneforge/Hammer package to assemble one-shot kills earlier. Improve resilience with hexproof carriers and protection like Swiftfoot Boots, Heroic Intervention, and Teferi's Protection. Lean on Sram, Sword of the Animist, and Skullclamp to fix Boros's weak card advantage and ramp.

Win Conditions

- ▸One-shot kills with Colossus Hammer plus trample and double strike
- ▸Lifelink Equipment (Shadowspear, Loxodon Warhammer) draining the table while stabilizing
Archetypes
- Voltron — Reyav's double strike doubles a single equipped/enchanted attacker's damage for fast commander-damage kills.
- Equipment — Cheap, free-equip artifacts trigger his ability while Stoneforge/Puresteel engines power the deck.
- Auras — Enchanting a hexproof creature with pump auras creates a resilient, double-striking threat.
