Etali, Primal Storm
The Commander
Whenever Etali attacks, exile the top card of each player's library, then you may cast any number of spells from among those cards without paying their mana costs.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp hard into a turn 5-6 Etali, swing in, and snowball off the free spells you steal from every library. Each attack generates explosive card and mana advantage that should bury the table, while big mana lets you cheat Etali back out after removal.
Strengths
- Massive card and mana advantage every combat with zero deckbuilding cost
- Mono-red ramp gives consistent fast starts and easy recast
- High ceiling — can chain multiple extra combats for runaway value
- Scales well with cheats: any free spell cast can be huge
Weaknesses
- Etali must attack to do anything, leaving it vulnerable to removal and blockers
- Results are random — you cast what libraries give you, not what you want
- Mono-red lacks card draw, recursion, and instant-speed interaction
- Slow start if ramp doesn't come together; clunky without the commander
Key Cards
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands after combat damage and protects Etali, enabling explosive double-spell turns.
- Aggravated Assault — With ramp it grants extra combats, multiplying Etali triggers into a game-ending value engine.
- Bear Umbra — Totem armor protects Etali and untapping all lands fuels more spells after attacking.
- Crucible of Fire — Pumps Etali and your dinosaurs, helping the 6/6 punch through and survive.
- Rampaging Ferocidon — Stops token blockers and punishes lifegain, clearing the path for Etali.
- Combat Celebrant — Cheap enabler for a second combat, doubling Etali's exile trigger.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and rituals (Mana Crypt, Jeska's Will, Dockside Extortionist) plus haste enablers like Lightning Greaves so Etali attacks the turn it lands. Layer in extra-combat engines (Aggravated Assault + Bear Umbra, World at War) and protection to make triggers reliable, then add big-mana payoffs and recursion-light tutors to find them. To raise the ceiling, run high-MV bombs of your own so the random reanimator-style steals from your library hit hard too.

Win Conditions
- ▸Chaining extra combats with Aggravated Assault into overwhelming Etali triggers
- ▸Casting bombs and stolen game-enders off attacks to take over the board
- ▸Beating down with a pumped Etali and other large dinosaurs
- ▸Landing a high-impact stolen spell (Insurrection, Expropriate, etc.) that ends the game
Archetypes
- Big Mana Ramp — Etali rewards flooding the board with mana to recast it and to cast huge stolen spells off the trigger.
- Extra Combats — Each additional attack repeats the steal-and-cast trigger, snowballing value into a win.
- Stompy/Dinosaurs — Etali is a top-end haymaker for an aggressive red creature shell with dinosaur synergies.
- Chaos/Goodstuff — The random free-cast trigger thrives in a pile of high-impact cards and chaos effects.
