Captain Lannery Storm
The Commander
Haste
Whenever Captain Lannery Storm attacks, create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with ", Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
Whenever you sacrifice a Treasure, Captain Lannery Storm gets +1/+0 until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Captain Lannery Storm is a mono-red aggro/Treasure commander who comes down turn 3 with haste and immediately starts swinging for Treasures. You convert those Treasures into ramp, card draw, and damage—sacrificing them pumps Lannery to close games fast or fuels artifact synergies and big spells.
Strengths
- Comes online turn 3 with haste, applying pressure immediately
- Generates free ramp and color fixing every combat in mono-red
- Treasure sacrifice pumps her into a real Voltron threat
- Synergizes with artifact and sacrifice payoffs for explosive turns
- Cheap to build and resilient to mass land destruction via Treasures
Weaknesses
- Mono-red limits card advantage and interaction options
- Relies on connecting in combat to snowball; easily chump-blocked or removed
- Low base stats make her vulnerable to most removal
- Treasure generation is slow without extra-combat triggers
- Struggles against fast combo and heavy stax at higher power levels
Key Cards
- Dockside Extortionist — Explodes Treasure count off opposing artifacts/enchantments, fueling pumps and ramp.
- Reckless Fireweaver — Pings each opponent whenever a Treasure enters, turning token generation into a damage engine.
- Mahadi, Emporium Master — Makes a Treasure for every creature death, snowballing your token economy in go-wide builds.
- Goldspan Dragon — Doubles Treasure mana and makes attacks generate two Treasures, accelerating everything.
- Storm-Kiln Artist — Treasures off spellcasting and Treasures triggering more Treasures creates massive mana for X-spells.
- Mass Hysteria — Grants your team haste to push aggressive, Treasure-fueled alpha strikes.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and Treasure doublers (Goldspan Dragon, Xorn, Professional Face-Breaker) to snowball faster, plus pinger payoffs like Reckless Fireweaver and Disciple of the Vault for inevitable damage. Improve interaction with cheap red removal and a protection suite (Lightning Greaves, Heroic Intervention via Treasure mana isn't possible, so lean on red's redirect and burn). Tighten the curve and add extra-combat enablers like Aggravated Assault or Hellkite Charger to chain attacks and Treasure triggers.
