Faramir, Steward of Gondor
The Commander
Whenever a legendary creature you control with mana value 4 or greater enters, you become the monarch.
At the beginning of your end step, if you're the monarch, create two 1/1 white Human Soldier creature tokens.
Guide
Gameplan
Faramir turns the monarchy into a recurring token engine: become the monarch by playing big legendary creatures (or any other means), then bank two 1/1 Humans every end step while drawing an extra card each turn. You flood the board with bodies, protect the crown with defensive interaction, and grind out advantage until you alpha strike with an anthem or go wide with a finisher.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage and token generation that snowballs every turn you hold the crown
- UW has the format's best protection, removal, and board wipes to defend the monarchy
- Tokens synergize with anthems, sacrifice outlets, and convoke/affinity payoffs
- Cheap commander (3 MV) that comes down early and rebuilds quickly after wipes
Weaknesses
- Loses the engine the moment the crown is taken or you're attacked unblocked
- Reliant on staying the monarch — fast aggressive tables punish you
- Token strategies fold to a single well-timed board wipe if you over-extend
- UW lacks ramp and can be slow to close before combo decks go off
Key Cards
- Skullclamp — Turns your endless stream of 1/1 Humans into a relentless draw engine.
- Intangible Virtue — Anthems your token army into a lethal go-wide threat.
- Smothering Tithe — Generates the mana to deploy threats and cast protection while ahead.
- Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite — A legendary 4+ MV creature that crowns you and devastates opposing boards while pumping your tokens.
- Ghostly Prison — Discourages attacks that would strip you of the monarchy.
Upgrade Path
Add more cheap 4+ MV legendary creatures and recursive ways to reclaim the monarchy so the engine never stalls. Lean into token payoffs like Cathars' Crusade, Anointed Procession, and sacrifice synergies, and tighten the mana with Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, and fast rocks. Round out with strong UW interaction (Swords to Plowshares, Cyclonic Rift, Teferi's Protection) to defend the crown through to a decisive go-wide swing.

Archetypes
- Tokens / Go-Wide — Faramir manufactures two bodies a turn, the core of an anthem-based swarm strategy.
- Monarch Control — He rewards holding the crown, pairing with pillowfort and card-draw to grind out the table.
- Legendary Tribal — Casting big legendary creatures both triggers monarch and builds a powerful midrange shell.
- Aristocrats — A steady token supply feeds sacrifice outlets and drain payoffs.
