Freya Crescent
The Commander
Jump — During your turn, Freya Crescent has flying.

Guide
Gameplan
Suit up Freya with cheap, aggressive Equipment, swing in the air (she has flying on your turn) and one-shot opponents with commander-damage voltron. Her tap ability ramps you a turn ahead on every Equipment cast or equip, letting you reload faster than the table can keep up. You win by going wide-narrow: one big evasive threat carrying buffs, backed by haste and protection.
Strengths
- One-mana commander that comes down turn 1 and pressures immediately
- Built-in evasion via Jump means equip buffs translate directly to damage
- Her mana ability accelerates an already cheap-to-deploy Equipment plan
- Mono-red gives access to cheap haste, extra combats, and equipment tutors
Weaknesses
- Classic voltron fragility—targeted removal or a single chump blocker resets your tempo
- Flying only on your turn, so she still gets blocked or doesn't deter attacks defensively
- Mono-red lacks reliable enchantment/artifact removal and card advantage
- All-in on the commander; losing her repeatedly to the command tax stalls the deck
Key Cards
- Embercleave — Cheap with an evasive attacker and turns Freya into a one-hit commander-damage kill.
- Colossus Hammer — Trivially equipped with her ramp and Jump lets the +10/+10 connect through the air.
- Sword of Fire and Ice — Protection, evasion-friendly damage, and card draw on a single equip.
- Swiftfoot Boots — Cheap hexproof and haste to protect your sole threat from removal.
- Puresteel Paladin — Free equips with metalcraft and card draw make Freya's equipment chain explosive.
- Sigarda's Aid — Flash in Equipment and attach it for free, ambushing blockers and racing on equip.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault) and Equipment tutors like Steelshaper's Gift, Stoneforge Mystic, and Open the Armory to find Embercleave or a Sword consistently. Layer in protection (Lightning Greaves, Robe of the Archmagi/Heroic Intervention effects) and recursion so removal doesn't end the game, then add extra-combat enablers like Aggravated Assault to close faster. Prioritize cheap, high-impact gear over expensive bombs to keep the curve low and leverage her ramp every turn.

Win Conditions
- ▸Commander damage: one giant evasive Freya carrying Embercleave or a Sword
- ▸Repeated air strikes that whittle the table down with protected buffs
- ▸Extra combat steps (Aggravated Assault, Relentless Assault) doubling your damage output
Archetypes
- Voltron — Jump gives reliable evasion so stacked Equipment buffs convert into commander-damage kills.
- Equipment Aggro — Her mana ability and low cost let you flood the board with gear and swing early and often.
- Combat Stax/Tempo — A fast clock backed by red disruption pressures the table before it can stabilize.
