Imodane, the Pyrohammer
The Commander
Whenever an instant or sorcery spell you control that targets only a single creature deals damage to that creature, Imodane deals that much damage to each opponent.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast cheap single-target burn spells at creatures (often your own or theirs) and let Imodane mirror that damage to every opponent at once, turning a humble Lightning Bolt into a 3-to-each-opponent finisher. You develop a low curve of efficient red instants/sorceries, protect Imodane, then chain spells with cost reduction and rituals for a multi-opponent burn kill.
Strengths
- Converts one-for-one removal into multiplayer reach, hitting all opponents simultaneously
- Mono-red consistency with cheap, well-supported burn and cantrips
- Damage scales with copy effects, doublers, and prowess for explosive turns
- Pressures the whole table at once, ending games out of nowhere
Weaknesses
- Imodane only triggers when a spell targets exactly one creature, so multi-target sweepers and X-to-each spells don't work
- Hard reliant on the commander; spell-based removal makes it fragile
- Mono-red lacks card draw and struggles against lifegain and high life totals
- Needs a creature on board to target, which sweepers and empty boards deny
Key Cards
- Lightning Bolt — Cheap single-target burn that becomes 3 damage to each opponent with Imodane out.
- Fireball — Single-target X spell scales huge and mirrors that full damage to every opponent.
- Chandra's Ignition — Note it hits everything, so it does NOT trigger Imodane—avoid relying on multi-target sweeps; instead favor single-target spells.
- Twinflame / Twinning Glass effects — Copying your burn spell creates a second single-target trigger, doubling Imodane's table damage.
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Generates mana off each spell cast to fuel long burn chains.
- Underworld Breach — Recasts burn spells from the graveyard to refire Imodane triggers for a lethal storm.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the curve with the cheapest possible burn and add copy effects (Dual Cast, Reverberate, Twinning Staff) and damage doublers like Fiery Emancipation for exponential output. Add mana acceleration (Jeska's Will, rituals, Birgi) and graveyard recursion (Underworld Breach, Past in Flames) to enable explosive single-turn kills, and include protection like Deflecting Swat and haste enablers to land Imodane safely.

Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Imodane rewards a deck packed with cheap single-target instants and sorceries that double as table-wide burn.
- Burn / Direct Damage — Turns every targeted burn spell into multiplayer reach, racing the whole pod's life totals.
- Combo — Spell recursion plus cost reduction can chain burn for a single big-turn kill across all opponents.
