Whenever one or more Birds you control deal combat damage to a player, choose one —
• You may put a Bird creature card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield with a finality counter on it.
• Put a +1/+1 counter on each Bird you control.
• Draw a card.
Build a wide, evasive Bird army and connect for combat damage to trigger Kastral's menu each turn—cheating in big Birds, pumping the whole flock, or refilling your hand. You win through repeated flying beatdowns that snowball as your board grows and your card advantage compounds.
Evasive tribal aggro that's hard to block since most Birds fly
Built-in card advantage and free Bird reanimation/cheating every combat
Anthem effects and +1/+1 counters scale the whole board quickly
Strong synergy with the surprisingly deep Bird tribal pool plus generic flyers support
Relies on connecting in combat—chump blockers, fog, and board wipes set you back hard
Commander-dependent; if Kastral is repeatedly removed the engine stalls
Low to the ground individually—wraths and sweepers like Pyroclasm hurt the token-heavy builds
UW lacks fast ramp and struggles against faster combo decks
Cheap interaction to clear blockers or remove threats so your flyers connect.
Add efficient anthems and counter doublers (Cathars' Crusade, Felidar Retreat tokens) plus more cheap Birds to lower the curve and go wider faster. Improve protection for Kastral with Swiftfoot Boots, Heroic Intervention, and counterspells, and tune the mana with fast rocks like Arcane Signet and Smothering Tithe. To push power higher, lean into a token-aristocrats or Skullclamp-fueled card-advantage engine so a wrath doesn't end the game.
